Ropes come in several different types, sizes, materials, and colors and have many different purposes! Most lariat ropes are made of polyester, nylon, hemp, or leather. The standard rope you see used at most rodeo events is usually braided nylon and between 30- and 35-feet. Roping the cattle as quickly as possible is the ultimate goal and these are the ropes usually used in the sports of team roping and tie-down roping. Whereas, typically, ropes used for ranch-work range between 50- and 60-feet or more in length and are perfect for catching cattle and horses.
